DJ Spooky is now "Artist" in Residence at The Metropolitan
Museum of Art.
Are you fucking kidding me? I was doing that in the 1980s when it was
new and cool. Regardless, he sucks, though gets to cash in. The "art"
world is bogus, inbred and 30 years behind. If you attend any of his events you
are too.
This is why Punk Rock remains valid. The Met is the new disco. Fuck it up. ^^

But Vin, he's so innovative with his iPad App :|
ReplyDeleteI agree Vin. Saw Spooky @ wetlands in the mid 90's, no vinyl and alot of delay & reverb.(Insert Price I$ Right $oundbyte). Now he uses the ipad?!? At no point did my face melt..Fail. IDR! IDR!
ReplyDeleteHa! There are so many sound artist, and those are not only in music, or in galleries, who I would put well above the Met's choice for residency. I think DJ S looks "cool" to the bourgeois audience who has the deep pockets to fund the Met., but he doesn't sound particularly great or innovative to me. Apparently you agree. He really doesn't suck, but, come on....
ReplyDeleteIn the end, we don't get to choose, and I'm sure his events will be well attended and publicized. But we can complain. Loudly.
